Natural Birth Partner Prep

As your due date approaches, it’s normal to feel excited, nervous, and unsure of what to expect. This is a private, in-home crash course visit that is designed to take the guesswork out of unmedicated labor by teaching your partner exactly how to support you. You’ll learn hands-on comfort techniques, positioning, comfort tools, and simple advocacy skills. You’ll leave feeling more confident, more connected, and ready to navigate birth as a team!

What Is a Natural Birth Partner Prep visit?

Natural Birth Partner Prep is a one-time, in-home doula visit focused on coaching your birth partner (and you) in basic practical comfort measures, positioning, advocacy, and supportive communication for labor. This session is designed for families planning an unmedicated or low-intervention birth who want hands-on tools and confidence without committing to full birth doula support.

As valuable as it is, it does not replace the depth, continuity, care, and education Birth Doula Support brings. This is designed as a crash course on basics and does not include full education that The Okie Haven Birth Doula Support clients receive.

What You Will Learn

This visit will take place in your home with you and your birth partner where we will be hands-on, practicing, and covering the essential basics on:

  • Hands-on comfort measures
  • Natural pain-coping techniques
  • Positioning and movement for labor
  • Partner support and communication tools
  • Basic advocacy and decision-making confidence
  • Rest and relaxation strategies for labor

All services are non-medical in nature. The visit does not replace childbirth education or full birth doula support.  During the visit, I will bring and demonstrate various comfort tools for you to practice with (such as positioning aids, rebozo techniques, etc.). Clients are welcome to observe and use these tools during the visit and may choose to purchase their own afterward.

Natural Birth Partner Prep FAQ's

Natural Birth Partner Prep visits are for expectant parents who want practical, hands-on support in preparing for labor. This session focuses on comfort measures, positioning, and communication tools to help you feel more confident going into birth.

This service is especially helpful for those planning an unmedicated or low-intervention birth and who want their support person to feel prepared without booking full, continuous doula care.

Birth partners can include anyone who will be your primary support during labor—such as a spouse, partner, sister, mother, or close friend.

The best time to book is before birth and whenever both you and your birth partner are available to hold the session together!

Booking earlier in pregnancy allows more time to practice skills, explore comfort techniques, and gather any tools you may want to use during labor.

Booking later in pregnancy can be helpful as the information stays fresh and close to your due date.

Ultimately, the timing is flexible and should be based on what feels best for your family.

It is recommended that you complete a childbirth education course prior to this session. Childbirth education helps you understand the labor and birth process, while this visit focuses on hands-on comfort measures, coping techniques, and partner support. Having that knowledge can help deepen your understanding of the “why” behind what we cover!

For our session, please wear comfortable clothing you can move in. It is also helpful to have a small open space available for practice (such as a living room, bedroom, or any area where you feel relaxed and can move freely).

This is a hands-on session, so we will be practicing techniques together!
